Inland Waterway Skipper

A classroom with a view of the Weser – that sums up your apprenticeship at Hal över. While others spend three years learning in offices or workshops, you experience inland navigation first-hand: on one of our seven ships, right in Bremen, in direct contact with an experienced team. You will learn a profession that exists only on the water – and at the end you will have not only a qualification but also real work experience and very good prospects of a secure job straight afterwards.

Job Description

During your apprenticeship you will take on a variety of tasks and get to know all areas of navigation on inland waterways. You can look forward to nautical and technical duties, varied contact with our passengers, a young and motivated team, and great support from your trainers. Throughout your apprenticeship you will learn everything that goes with inland navigation – from operating to maintaining a ship.

What You Bring

School-leaving certificate (minimum secondary school)
Manual dexterity and an interest in technology
Reliability and integrity
A customer- and service-oriented attitude
Good German language skills; a bit of English would be great
A Class B driving licence would be nice but is not a requirement

We Are

Hal över Bremer Fahrgastschifffahrt GmbH operates a fleet of seven passenger vessels and ferries on the Weser and its tributaries in Bremen and the surrounding region. In addition to scheduled and round-trip services, we provide charter cruises and events.
